Clickmarks Introduces M-Commerce
Toolkit™, Enabling Telcos
and Wireless Carriers to Wireless-Enable
E-Commerce Sites
Fast, Low-Cost Solution Requires
No Coding
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA - October
11, 2001
Clickmarks, a provider of software
infrastructure and products for
wireless carriers and enterprises,
today announced an M-Commerce Toolkit
that enables telcos and wireless
carriers to wireless-enable any
merchant partner's e-commerce site
in as little as 10 minutes. Available
as a software license or as a service
from Clickmarks, the solution is
designed to give service providers
a rapid, inexpensive means of generating
incremental airtime and commission
revenues from mobile commerce.
For providers, Clickmarks' M-Commerce
Toolkit eliminates the extensive
recoding and costly custom software
implementations that are usually
involved in preparing a given e-commerce
site to accept and process purchase
requests from wireless devices.
The software makes it possible to
quickly extract the relevant fields
and forms, and convert them to a
format that can be understood by
and displayed on any mobile device,
without any coding or programming.
Each site needs to be mobilized
only once, allowing use with all
leading PDAs, Web-enabled cell phones
and pagers without performing conversion
procedures for each platform. For
every purchase, transaction details
like cost and items purchased can
be tracked, enabling support of
both transaction based and fixed
revenue models.
For wireless shoppers, Clickmarks'
solution minimizes the number of
keystrokes required to make a purchase,
thereby reducing awkward navigation
on small buttons or keypads. Only
the commerce-specific portions of
a particular site are captured,
eliminating the need to point and
click through non-essential screens.
In addition, redundant data entry
is avoided because wireless subscribers
use their desktop computers for
a one-time setup session to input
personal information such as shipping
address and credit card. This "M-profile"
is then automatically submitted
for every user transaction on every
merchant site. No re-keying is required.
"Industry analysts have projected
that Americans alone will spend
$50 billion shopping on wireless
devices in 2005, but to make that
happen, there is an urgent need
for tools that can quickly and inexpensively
transform e-merchants into m-merchants,"
said John Huyett, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Clickmarks.
"Our M-Commerce Toolkit is
the first solution that can mobilize
any site for any wireless device
without the time and expense of
completely recoding a site and rewriting
the code for each different device.
For that reason, it promises to
play a critical role in helping
merchants as well as service providers
tap the potential of wireless shopping."
Clickmarks' M-Commerce Toolkit
integrates with existing subscriber
profiles from telcos and wireless
carriers. It supports HDML, WML,
CHTML and MML cell phones; Palm,
Pocket PC and RIM handhelds; Motorola
and RIM pagers; and desktops for
user set-up.
